| NOVEMBER 19 2009: WTUL 91.5FM (NEW ORLEANS, LA) INTERVIEW BY DJ DRIFTWOOD Driftwood: ...sitting in front of me this evening yet again, Mr. Jak Locke. Jak: Hello. Driftwood: Hello. Jak: Nice to be back. Driftwood: So what do we got going on Wednesday night? Jak: We've got the food drive. Thanksgiving food drive at The Box Office. Driftwood: Which I mean is just a, it's good for everyone involved and everyone who gets something out of it, you know. Jak: Absolutely. Driftwood: Bring a can, get a couple bucks off, have a few drinks, you know, you're supporting something good and helping people to feed themselves, people who can't feed themselves. Jak: Yeah. Be nice to the poor and get deaf. What could be better? Driftwood: There you go. Hahaha, I may have a can of earplugs behind the bar just in case. Jak: There you go. Driftwood: Hahaha, it is a live room from what I've heard. Jak: Yes, yes very live. You will hear the music very well. Driftwood: Hahaha Jak: You'll hear the music two blocks away very well. No, it's a cool place, really cool place man, The Box Office. Driftwood: What do you got, you got anything else coming up other than that particular show scheduled? Jak: Yeah, playing in Houma November 28th. I believe the next local show we have after this...I could be wrong, I got the calendar on JakLocke.com but we do have a show at Whiskey Dix in New Orleans December 19th, that'll probably end up being the last rock show of the year. And I do Monday nights, acoustic two and a half hour sets 8:00 every night--every Monday night, rather. Yeah. Driftwood: Over where, at-- Jak: Box Office, Box Office, where the food drive's being held. Driftwood: Excellent. So yeah, if you want to catch a different version of his show than you may have caught at the Dragon's Den or somewhere else. Speaking of that, I know you guys just played over there with a couple other bands, how'd that show go? Jak: Yeah, it went good. Jeremy our bassist split his head open and bled all over the stage, it was awesome. Driftwood: What? Jak: Yeah. Hahaha Driftwood: Now that is rock man. Jak: That is. We went through the whole concussion questionnaire afterwards and he was all right but yeah, it was literally gushing down his face. Driftwood: What did he do? Jak: At the end of the show he was like banging the bass headstock into his head and uh-- Driftwood: What?! Jak: He told me it was an accident but I watched the video man, there's no way that wasn't on purpose. Hahaha Driftwood: Hahaha Jak: I was like, "you know you've got to do this at the end of every show now." Hahaha Driftwood: Hahaha cuz it's metal. Jak: That's right. Even though we're not. Hahaha Driftwood: Hahaha that's all right. Whenever you get a chance to be true metal, you gotta take it. Jak: That's right. That's it, yeah. Driftwood: Even if you're not playing--cracking a head open is totally metal. Jak: Right. Driftwood: That's just how it is. Jak: We're going to be shooting a new music video in January. Other than that, that's about all that's coming up. We got some other stuff, but go look at the website for that, that's what it's there for. Driftwood: You mentioned something about this video that you were trying to do to me. Jak: Yes, it's for "Hannah" which isn't the song we'll be playing, but "Hannah" is one of these really--it's probably the most sugary pop upbeat song that I will ever write, so it sort of dictates that the video needs to be this incredibly gory B-movie horror sort of slasher thing. Driftwood: Haha nice. Jak: So that's what we're gonna be working on. Still trying to get some makeup artists and things like that. We're gonna do it right. It's gonna be the most disgusting thing you've ever seen. And you'll love it for that. Driftwood: Excellent. So anybody out there who's listening, if--I know there's a couple guys who do some comic stuff and we've got a calendar in here that they're on, I'm gonna see if I can get Jak in touch with these guys, but if anybody happens to do any B-movie makeup you can get in touch with me here at the station and I'll put you in touch with Jak. Or I'm sure you can send him a message through his MySpace. What is your MySpace? Jak: myspace.com/jaklocke, let me go ahead and spell that, j-a-k-l-o-c-k-e. Driftwood: No spaces. Jak: Right, no spaces. And the website is also the same spelling, JakLocke.com. Driftwood: Nice. Can you buy CDs and single songs through that, like through iTunes or whatever? Jak: Yeah, iTunes, AmazonMP3 and Rhapsody I believe. Driftwood: Well there you have it. Unfortuantely we're running through people quick tonight because I think I explained with the last interview, we're kind of mentioning the same show four different times so I don't want to overburden you with it but I want to give everybody a little bit of time to let everybody know what they got coming up aside from the show at Box Office on Wednesday night. Which is for a phenomenally good cause so come out and see some local music even if you're not at The Box Office, you know, get up off your couch and check out some local tunes. We're gonna do a track off of your album called "Repeater". Jak: That'll work. Driftwood: Number nine off of Chaos Narcotic. Thanks for coming in man, I appreciate it. Jak: Thanks for having me. Driftwood: We will catch you next time, Jak: Yes you will. Driftwood: And people out there listening may catch you on Wednesday night over at The Box Office. Jak: Hopefully so, come out wherever you are. Driftwood: Show starts at 8, you are second up if I'm not mistaken. Jak: Yes. Driftwood: Yes, excellent. |
