Cracked Porch Lights
written by: Jak Locke

version 1:
from Datura Holiday (September 25th 2001) (4:38)
The fire marshal’s screaming, blanket on my back
Ain’t nobody watching, the ceiling’s turning black
Busted speakers on my wall

Fire alarm ain’t working, blowin smoke in its face
Sprinkler system shooting watered down mace all in my face

I pulled down all the lights, replaced them all with sand
I got so stoned I couldn’t feel my hand
It’s all right now, I got granola bars in my closet

Telephone ain’t ringin, on the computer all day
Downloading MP3s to have something to play
Ain’t nobody come check on me
I clean my room on Thursday to keep my VT

I ain’t got no friends, they don’t know my name
If I asked them what it is they’d ask why I came
Telephone wires all exposed
Stale cigarette butts attacking my nose

I drank all the water, policeman told me "stop"
I said "what’s the matter, are you the water cop?"
And he said you got remote controls for your VCR, CD player and TV

Got on the line, all good in here
So many problems not enough beer
And I got nothing better to do than lay on my bed, play guitar and sing to you

version 2:
from Laced (October 16th 2002) (3:11)
The fire marshal’s screaming “get me off your back”
Ain’t nobody watching, my lungs are turning black
Encephalitic mooseheads on the wall

Fire alarm ain’t working, blowin smoke in its face
She left her clothes here, she’ll be back at my place
Some time soon, maybe next fall

I pulled down all the lights, replaced them all with lead
I got so stoned I couldn’t feel my head
It’s all right now, I got granola bars in my closet

Ain’t got no friends, they don’t know my name
If I asked them what it is, they’d ask me the same
Ain’t no money to make no deposit

Got on the line, hope to find you here
So many problems, not enough beer
And I got nothing better to do than stand up right here, play guitar and sing to you
